The 1935 $1 dollar Silver Certificate has 9 different notes in the series. They start at 1935 and then go from 1935A to 1935H. The reason for the different types of notes is that when the “Treasurer of the United States” or the “Secretary of the Treasury” changes, by law they must print notes bearing their name. That is how the “A” through “H” series works, or any other dated currency with multiple lettering in the series. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing or BEP will print millions of “backs” of notes for a series. Then print a set number of “fronts” of the notes as needed for the series with the correct Treasurer of The United States or Secretary of The Treasury. You can locate their signatures on the bottom left side and bottom right side of the front of the note. The signatures on these notes are Smith on the left and Dillon on the right. A lot of collectors will collect the entire series in a designated note, which adds to the fun of collecting currency as there are many options.
