Product Description

Trade Dollars were minted under the Coinage Act of 1873 and were created for use in the export trade with China. They were made slightly heavier than the preceding Seated Liberty dollar and bear the fineness of 420 grains of 0.900 fine silver.

Trade dollars were minted across all three mints at the time; being produced in Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Carson City, and were heavily used in the export trade at the time until they were discontinued by the Bland-Allison act in 1878. A proof strike continued to be minted for collectors until 1885 with examples valued in the millions of dollars. Many Trade dollars were repatriated from China by American collectors and the Trade dollar remains a popular collector’s favorite to this day.

You will receive the unique coin shown in the photos housed in plush-lined box with a certificate of authenticity. The product offered in this listing has been certified by one or more professional certification services, so you can be confident in the authenticity and stated condition.
