This museum quality piece is a very fine, original Imperial Rome Denarius of Emperor Severus Alexander, coined in Rome 223 A.D.
Obverse: Portrait of the Emperor Laureate facing right.
Reverse: Jupiter standing left.
Imperator Caesar Marcus Aurelius Severus Alexander Augustus (known as ”Severus Alexander”) reigned 13 March 222 A.D. – 19 March 235 A.D. Born: 1 October 208 A.D. at Arca Caesarea, Phoenicia (modern Akkar, Lebanon) – Died: 19 March 235 A.D. (aged 26) at Moguntiacum, Germania Superior (Mainz, Germany). Last of the Severan dynasty. His weak rule collapsed in the civil strife that engulfed the empire for the next 50 years.
