This museum quality piece is a very fine, original Imperial Rome Denarius of Emperor Septimius Severus, coined in Emesa between 194-195 A.D.
Obverse: Portrait of the Emperor Laureate facing right.
Reverse: Victory facing left.
Imperator Caesar Lucius Septimius Severus Pertinax Augustus (known as ”Septimius Severus”) reigned 14 April 193 A.D. – 4 February 211 A.D. Born: 11 April 145 A.D. at Leptis Magna – Died: 4 February 211 A.D. (aged 65) at Eboracum. Member of the Severan dynasty. His principal achievements were that he founded a personal dynasty and converted the government into a military monarchy.
