This museum quality piece is a very fine, original Roman Empire Denarius of Emperor Caracalla coined in Rome between 210-212 A.D.
Obverse: Portrait of the Emperor Laureate facing right.
Reverse: Salus standing right.
Imperator Caesar Marcus Aurelius Severus Antoninus Augustus (known as ”Caracalla”) reigned 28 January 198 A.D. – 8 April 217 A.D. Born: 4 April 188 A.D. at Lugdunum – Died: 8 April 217 A.D. (aged 29) on the road between Edessa and Carrhae. Member of the Severan dynasty. His principal achievements were his colossal baths in Rome and his edict of 212, giving Roman citizenship to all free inhabitants of the empire.
