State Quarter Dollar.

When the mint decommissions a die, they deface to prevent them from being used to create additional coins and unauthorized error coins.

Cancelled dies can then be sold as numismatic collectables, which is the case here.

The face of the die has been completely grinded off (see pics).

The die has serial number D1 – 224660.
