Calumet Farms Bourbons
CALUMET FARM BOURBON // 16 YEAR BOURBON
A tribute to one of the greatest thoroughbreds in racing history, Calumet Farm 16 Year Old Bourbon Whiskey represents the dedication and patience it takes to create a champion.
After a stunning 2-year-old season in 1947, famed trainer Ben Jones knew that their horse was set to have a breakout 3-year old season. In 1948, Citation furthered his campaign toward becoming a legend. He began the season with a handful of wins, then Eddie Arcaro was tapped to jockey Citation. The pair would go on to capture the 1948 Triple Crown and be named Horse of the Year. By the end of his 3-year-old season, he had a total of 27 victories and two 2nd place finishes out of 29 starts. Citation would go on winning and be the first major North American horse to amass a 16 race win streak and to top $1 million in career earnings.
Created to honor the legacy of Calumet Farm and its second Triple Crown-winning horse, this exquisite bourbon was made with the same passion and dedication that lead Citation to victory. This expression is their most aged and highest proof to date. Its bold tastes and flavors are matched perfectly well with a balanced finish.
— Appearance: Deep mahogany with dark red shadows and golden highlights
— Aroma: Upon uncorking, notes of woody-char and smoke subside to reveal softer scents of toasted almonds and fresh-cut summer hay. As the spirit opens up, lighter notes of citrus and orange mix with darker floral and cherry scents to complete the experience.
— Palate: Saturated-oak and warm rye spice open the palate, allowing flavors of cherries, dark fruits, and baking spice to present fully. Fresh baked bread, toasted toffee, and a light corn meal dryness round out the rich flavors.
— Finish: Imparting a lighter than expected finish, this spirit's bold flavors give way to a subtle warmth, notes of toasted grains, and a smokiness that proceed the mellowing of wood sugars and oak
