French Model 1822 Flintlock Conversion Pistol // 1822-1824

An impressive French Model 1822 T-Bis Flintlock/Percussion conversion pistol by Mre Rle de St Étienne, dated 1822/1824. A very large and heavy military percussion pistol made at the arsenal at Saint-Étienne in France, featuring a dark wooden stock, steel barrel and lock assembly, and brass furniture including the trigger guard, barrel band, and a buttcap with an integrated lanyard ring. Prominent markings on the lock plate include "Mre Rle / de St Etienne," and the date "1822." Additional markings observed are "1824" near the barrel's breech, "C de 17-6A" and "TF" on the barrel, "1120" and "368" on the sideplate, and "MC" on a brass escutcheon. The 'T-Bis' designation indicates a percussion conversion from an earlier flintlock model. Nice condition overall, with dings, dents and scuffs commensurate with age. It has a nice, rich patina, and the hammer holds cock, with a tight snap, some original finish remaining. Total pistol length 13.75”.
