1888 Jewish Sefer Tehillim (David’s Psalms) Leaf
An authentic page from an early Jewish Sepher Tegilim (David’s Psalms), printed in Warsaw, Poland, January of 1888. This 1888 Hebrew Psalm book page is something special. If this precious page could talk it would tell you not only what is written on its two sides, but also what it has experienced and where it has been since its publication in Warsaw on January 11, 1888.
There are so many unanswered questions. Was it ever hidden away, not only for its own protection but also for the protection of those who owned it? How and when did it find its way from Warsaw to Amsterdam?
The deteriorated book this leaf came from was acquired at an antique store in Amsterdam, in February 2015. The book was tattered and incomplete, most of the remaining pages loose and out of order. Hence the decision to make each individual page available to be acquired by the next guardian on its historic journey. Each leaf measures roughly 8.25” x 5.25”. These leaves are in fair-to-poor condition for their age. They are brittle since they are on wood pulp paper rather than cotton rag paper as was used in earlier centuries. They must be handled with care. There may be foxing, some ragged edges, small tears and rounded corners. But they are each very suitable for framing.
Every page is different, but similar in size and condition. The one you receive may be different, and not necessarily the same as pictured.
